While there is no dispute that Waltke and the other writers are scholars and very respected theologians in some circles, this book is meant for those who are seeking to see the Psalms as Christian literature and not for what they are: the Psalms of the people of Israel, who were Jewish. Much of the work, while interesting, whitewashes the identity of the Psalms and the authors refuse to allow them to possibly be understood in social matters when it comes to justice and injustice in the world today (of which they were used for during their times). They pit the social against the personal, making the social responsibility to one another something that we should avoid when it comes to psalms of lament, and only focus on our personal relationship and suffering with God. While well written, this book is narrow-minded in its theology and would not be an appropriate read for Christians interested in the social gospel or the historical context of the Hebrew Scriptures. This book is more appropriate for seminary students who find themselves in the evangelical, prosperity gospel, and neo-Calvinist circles.

Another Waltke work of concise, directed and pastoral teaching… prompted by his lifelong dedication to the Word of God. As one of my seminary profs. he continues to demonstrate God's desire to reveal the truth of the Scriptures. Waltke remains a servant of the Lord of Lord's and the King of Kings!!

Dr. Waltke is a former professor and one of the most learned and godly men I have ever sat under. Anything he writes is profound and lifts your relationship with God to new heights.

Excellent exegesis and interpretation combined with historical theology.

Not only has this book helpful in a scholarly way but I have used it for a devotional as well. This is a very good book. Highly recommend it.
